“Our participation in President’s Club gives us an opportunity to be in touch with what is happening on campus and support developments at the university. It gives us the opportunity to interface with the younger leaders of today and the upcoming and outstanding leaders of tomorrow.”
Diane and Gary Tooker, co-chairs
Both Diane and Gary Tooker are ASU alums — Diane earned a degree in early education in 1961 while Gary earned his engineering degree in 1962, with further graduate studies in business administration.
Having come from humble beginnings, they each know the transformational power of education and focus much of their contributions in this area with the intention of making significant impact. This purpose, combined with their educational background, make the Tookers avid, long-term supporters of ASU.
Gary is a volunteer and advisor to the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, which has presented him with its Excellence Award. He received a Distinguished Alumnus Award and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from ASU. He served two terms as a director of the ASU Alumni Association and is a trustee of the ASU Foundation and on the board of directors of ASU’s Research Park in Tempe. Diane’s involvement includes assistance creating and administering ASU’s Medallion of Merit Scholarship fundraiser and past service as ASU Alumni Association director. She and Gary were joint recipients of ASU’s James W. Creasman Award of Excellence in 1999.
Professionally, Diane is a former school teacher and realtor. She had her own interior design business, Designovations. Gary currently serves on the board of directors of Avnet, Inc., and the Eaton Corporation. He retired as chairman of the board of Motorola in 1999, after serving 37 years in a variety of positions including president, vice chairman and chief executive officer.
Diane and Gary also are involved in a number of professional and civic organizations.
